All of the flute family members described below are used regularly in Raleigh Flute Choir performances!
The piccolo plays 1 octave higher than the concert C flute.
The E-flat flute sounds 1 1/2 steps above the written note and the three-octave range is from the E-flat just above middle C to the E-flat three octaves above that.
The C flute, or concert flute, is the flute with which most people are familiar.
The alto flute is in the key of G, pitched one fourth lower than the C flute.
The bass flute is pitched a full octave lower than the C flute.
The contrabass flute is pitched two octaves lower than the C flute.
