Founded in 1986 for professional and semi-professional flutists within the newly-formed Raleigh Area Flute Association (RAFA), this nascent ensemble was first dubbed RAFA Advanced Performing Choir before officially becoming the Raleigh Flute Choir (RFC) in 1987.

RFC’s first official public concert was on December 11, 1987 at the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the group quickly established a three-concert performance season (fall, holiday, and spring).  They take pride in performing an eclectic repertoire spanning the centuries from the Renaissance through Contemporary, including many original compositions.

Over the years, this unique chamber ensemble has expanded its instrumentation to include the full flute family of piccolos, standard C-flutes, Eb, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes, resulting in a full, lush sonority that delights audiences of all ages.

Performance highlights these past 40 years include appearances at Duke Chapel (annually since 1997), Piccolo Spoleto (Charleston, SC), The Biltmore Estate (Asheville), Bruton Parish Chapel (Colonial Williamsburg, VA), National Flute Conventions (Washington DC, Chicago, Orlando, Charlotte, Atlanta), and at The White House on five occasions (1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2010).

Appearing as a full ensemble or as duets, trios or quartets, these musicians always aim to educate as well as entertain in settings such as schools and universities, civic organizations, churches, retirement communities, festivals, weddings, and special events.
